OFWAT visit to Oilers Farm

30th June 2025

Recently, we were proud to welcome representatives from OFWAT to the Oilers Farm project, delivered by Barhale on behalf of Thames Water. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to offer greater insight into the complexities of the essential infrastructure projects OFWAT helps regulate.

Key discussions focused on the real-world challenges we face on site, including access constraints, third-party stakeholder engagement, environmental and technical issues and how we actively mitigate them through collaboration and innovation.

One highlight was the use of the Gikken Piling rig, an innovative solution that significantly reduces noise and disturbance to both local stakeholders and sensitive ecology. We also showcased planned programme efficiencies, including:

  • The lowering of UKPN overhead cables to avoid river dredging
  • The use of floating plant to install sheet piles

These measures not only reduce cost and time but crucially minimise ecological disruption within the working area. The visit also reinforced the strong and productive relationship between OFWAT and Thames Water, while giving Barhale the opportunity to demonstrate our technical capabilities, problem-solving mindset and commitment to sustainable delivery.

Thank you to our visitors for taking the time to engage with the project:
