London Transport Awards
Barhale has won
the coveted Road Streetworks Contractor of the Year category in the 2010 London
Transport Awards.
The award was
presented in London at a ceremony sponsored by Transport for London and
organised in conjunction with Transport Times.
According to
the citation, Barhale was “extremely co-operative, in particular at work sites
where the rebuilding of cable chambers was necessary on the Victoria Embankment
and in Victoria Street at its junction with Bressenden Place.”
The judges were
told that “at both sites the contractor worked extended hours, seven days a
week, with the result that both chamber constructions were completed and these
busy roads were returned to traffic well ahead of programme. Furthermore the
Victoria Embankment works had to be postponed at exceptionally short notice,
because of other activities in the area, and while they were in progress it was
necessary to close them down, and temporarily deck over the large excavation,
to release the carriageway to sporting competitors during the Triathlon event.”
Barhale director Steve Critchley
said: “This is a coveted award in the capital and the work of many different
contractors is considered. We are
delighted to have been given the Contractor of the Year accolade.”
